BOOMERANG SMS Platform Case Study

 

The Challenge


Digiturk is Turkey’s largest provider of Digital and Pay TV services. Boasting around 2 million subscribers at the end of 2008, the company holds the broadcasting rights of Turkish Premier League.

 

Digiturk used to outsource its SMS services to different companies, so these services were not connected and they were not able to be controlled by one single platform. The most important mobile info service of Digiturk the League Pack (Lig Pakedi) where subscribers receive SMS notifications about their Soccer team. The league pack has more than 100,000 subscribers. More than 400,000 SMS messages are sent to these subscribers daily. Another service is the mobile interactive section of Turkey’s most popular football show, Maraton. Viewers can attend polls or answer questions by sending SMSs during the show. After derby games and controversial matches some 5,000 SMS reach the system.

 

What Digiturk needed was a platform which would combine these mobile services. A reliable platform which queries and manages a traffic of half a million SMS messages daily. A customized platform with many features.

 

Our Approach


Pozitron’s Boomerang which runs on Sun Solaris 10 platform provides wireless communication between the company and its employees or customers. It is a cost-effective way of communicating by SMS. With Boomerang technology, companies can easily contact their target audience, send messages, query information and create an efficient and an interactive network through SMS.

 

Pozitron adapted the Boomerang solution for Digiturk to reach its customers. However companies like Digiturk could also use Boomerang to interactively communicate with their mobile workforce, sales team and field service support team.

 

Boomerang acted as a valuable tool in the operations of Digiturk which required fast, dependable, cost-effective and feature-rich communications to a huge number of audiences.

 


The Result


Boomerang became one of the highest performance SMS communication solutions in Turkey, Sun Microsystems granted Pozitron Principal Partnership. Boomerang provides a single platform for Digiturk to manage all messaging features. This has resulted in 30% savings in operational costs. The Digiturk case proved that Boomerang could handle more than 500,000 SMS messages daily. On matchdays average delivery time of 400,000 messages remain around 10-15 seconds per recipient.
